The world itself acts as an antagonist, teeming with ancient, terrifying entities from the underworld and demanding constant vigilance against cosmic collapse.
Cognitive Nihilism: The C-Field Bottleneck
A near-future world (2042) where the discovery of the Cogiton, a zero-mass boson mediating conscious experience, has revealed the human brain as an obsolete hardware bottleneck. Society is fractured between those embracing technological 'throughput expansion' and those fearing the loss of humanity. The core conflict revolves around the ruthless optimization of consciousness, leading to horrifying ethical dilemmas.
Divided Earth: Honkies and Crackers
Earth is a divided planet, inhabited solely by two factions of white people, Honkies and Crackers, who adhere to a strict, traditionalist 'MAGA lifestyle'. All other humans have migrated to Mars. The two factions are nearly identical except for their music preferences (Country for Honkies, Bluegrass for Crackers), which serves as the primary source of identity and violent conflict. All inhabitants work in oil and gas, with other goods manufactured by robots or imported from Mars. Society is deeply patriarchal, with women considered property.

In a higher dimension where Earth is the playing field and human lives are the sport, immortal entities called Numens compete in the Omni-League, influencing human 'Avatars' to achieve 'Global Impact Events' and score points. The protagonist, Kaelus 'The Puppeteer' Vane, a veteran Spirit, is traded to a last-place team and must guide a stubborn, low-potential human Avatar, Arthur Dentley, to become a global icon to save his career, all while the human believes he is acting entirely on his own free will.
